Skidmore honors veterans, encouraging storytelling and remembrance

Thanksgiving bread and pie sale

‌Dining Services will be selling baked goods for Thanksgiving. Orders must be received by tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 16, and can be picked up from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, or from 9 to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, in the Atrium Café. Order here, or contact Mark Miller with questions.

COVID-19 reminders

Ahead of Thanksgiving break next week, the COVID-19 Logistics Working Group encourages all community members to mask up and test if you are sick or have been exposed to COVID-19, to consider masking in higher-risk situations such as while traveling or in crowded events, and to get an updated COVID-19 vaccine or flu shot if you have not already. Students are encouraged to pick up a box of tests before leaving campus and to test before returning to campus. (Tests are available at the Case Center information desk from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from Campus Safety after hours.) Students who test positive should review these guidelines for self-reporting and isolation. Employees must inform their supervisor or department chair, email Human Resources, and follow CDC guidelines.

This weekend: Skidmania ’73 ‌

‌Skidmania, which celebrates the music of 50 years ago, will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 18, in Arthur Zankel Music Center. Proceeds support Skidmore Cares and will be generously matched by Trustee James Zankel ’92. Tickets for the Friday and ‌

‌Skidmore Cares — our annual campus-wide effort to support individuals and families in need in our community — is now in its 18th year. Visit the Skidmore Cares website to learn about ways you can support local community organizations. Collected items can be dropped off at Scribner House Carriage House from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 29 and 30. ‌

‌The Strategic Action Agenda 2023-24 is now posted on the strategic planning website. This document provides context for and review of last year’s agenda and presents five goals for this year’s agenda. These goals emerged from and continue to support Skidmore’s current strategic plan. ‌ ‌

‌Steve Fund partnership to support BIPOC mental health and well-being ‌

‌Skidmore College will be engaging in an 18-month partnership with the Steve Fund's Equity in Mental Health on Campus initiative to improve our campus services, policies, and practices that prioritize the mental health and emotional well-being of students of color. ‌'Arborlogues' botanical recital

‌Dan Daly and Lee LeBreton present “Arborlogues,” a botanical recital for one tree, this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17 and 18, as part of Schick Gallery’s “Arboreal” exhibition, an interdisciplinary exhibition addressing trees and the environment. ‌Indigenization and Decolonization Collaborative open community conversation ‌

‌The Indigenization and Decolonization Collaborative invites you to an open community conversation from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 16, in Wyckoff Center. Come share ideas for a potential learning community our grassroots group of faculty, staff, and students engaging with our campus' Indigenous and colonizing past, present, and futures. ‌Children’s Book Drive

‌The Reading Minds Scribner Seminar is hosting a campus-wide book drive to collect new and good-as-new used children’s books, Nov. 27 through Dec. 1. All books will be donated to the Saratoga Children's Literacy League, which provides free books to the children of Saratoga County. ‌Kids Night Out

‌Kids ages 5 to 13 are invited to enjoy well-supervised recreational activities provided by the great facilities of Skidmore College’s Williamson Sports Center 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17. No pre-registration is necessary. The cost is $10 per child. For more information, email Ron Plourde.

‌The Skidmore Shop will be participating in this year’s Toys for Toga drive and fundraiser. If you’d like to donate new, unwrapped toys, visit our in-store dropbox by Dec. 9. Donated toys will be distributed to Franklin Community Center (Saratoga Springs), CAPTAIN Youth and Family Services (Clifton Park), and the Mechanicville Area Community Services Center. Athletics News

The unbeaten Skidmore College men’s ice hockey team will host No. 10 Norwich University in the annual Pack the Rink game at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, at the Saratoga Springs City Rink. The first 150 fans with a canned good donation will receive a T-shirt. There will also be other prizes and between-period competitions. A free bus runs from Case Center at 6:30 p.m. The team completes the weekend home league schedule at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, against New England College.

‌The Burke Family Fundraiser was a big success with more than $3000 in cash/GoFundMe donations and $2000 in gift cards from the more than 1,000 fans who attended the men’s basketball team’s opening game against New Paltz. Coach Joe Burke, his son Alec '25 and their family recently lost their home in a devastating fire. Their GoFundMe page remains available for donations.
